TakeDown Wedges are specialized lamination materials used for building traditional take-down bows, specifically for forming the handle/limb interface. These wedges are used in the “riser” or limb-pocket area of a takedown bow limb to create a stable, tapered transition where the limb attaches to the riser. Using these wedges allows bowyers to push the “working” part of the limb further out, which can improve stability and the force/draw curve of the bow. Typical takedown wedges have a straight taper, often starting at a thickness of approximately .300 inches and tapering down to zero over the length. The standard length is set to 8.25″ which is the length of the wedges on the 62/64″ TakeDown Longbow form plan.

Most often, these are made from Actionboo, which consists of vertical bamboo strips laminated together. This material is favored in bowmaking for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and dimensional stability. You can choose a different species and dimensions before you add the wedges to your cart.

Dimensions: Approximately 0.300″ butt thickness tapers to 0.0″ at tip x 8.25″ in length

Quantity: Each order includes two wedges

Please specify in your product notes if you need a different length or butt thickness for your project.
