About Bending Branch

This work is my passion. Based in northern Wisconsin, I follow the rhythm of the hardwoods and pines. To me, a handcrafted bow is an extension of the forest that honors the spirit of the hunt. I build these bows for those who seek to strip away the modern world and find joy in the primitive path.

My Philosophy & Roots

Born and raised in Northern Wisconsin, I’ve spent my life hunting, trapping, and fishing the local woods and waters. My deep dive into traditional archery began when my friend Scott encouraged me to pursue the sport—a nudge that ultimately led me to the craft of bow-making. There is not much I enjoy more than being in the woods—whether in a tree stand with a longbow in hand or resting next to the wood stove in my remote cabin in the Chequamegon Forest.

MADE WITH HUMAN HANDS

I’ve met many craftsmen in this trade over the past several years. Few have been more helpful than Kenny McKenzie of Kenny’s Custom Archery. When Kenny told me that he is retiring in 2026, I decided his legacy would continue. Bending Branch now offers Kenny’s original plans and tutorials. Getting a helping hand from a few old bowyers is exactly how I got my start, and I am passionate about sharing that knowledge. I look forward to helping you in your pursuit.

Each Bending Branch bow starts with a foundation of quality raw materials: an engineered-wood riser combined with carefully chosen stave pieces made from a wide assortment of wood types. Some of these wood pieces are even harvested from my own land and sawn down on my sawmill.

I’ve dabbled in various stain colors, ranging from natural finishes to vibrant action woods. Every handle is carved by hand using simple tools in my bow shop. A crucial part of the process involves repeatedly pulling back each bow and flinging arrows during the build to loosen the fibers and teach the wood how to perform. I do welcome customers and aspiring bowyers to my shop. Whether you happen to live in northern Wisconsin and want to pick-up supplies or are in need of seeing the bow-building process first-hand, please schedule a time to visit. I love to share this craft with fellow traditional archery enthusiasts.
